First thing I noticed was the size. They
each weight around 10-15kg, which was a small issue, as I was picking
them up with a bicycle :). After my wife drove with car, and got them, I
started to go through what I had gotten.
Each box contains several A4 sized HDF (Edited: I falsely wrote MDF) sheets with the parts that have to be plugged out. They come out easy enough, so only tool I needed was a pen to push out the small parts where my finger was too big.
So far the only real shortcoming I've noticed are the instructions. They are in one page, small and do not cover all the buildings.
I have no doubt that I can get them built, but some parts require careful testing before gluing them with pva.
I started to build a T-section of a corridor, and as you can see, they are nice, big and roomy.
They are also modular, and can be arranged in several different combinations for playing.
Finally, all the roofs come off, so the toy soldiers can actually get and stay inside.
the surface pattern is one sided and quite shallow, I don't know how I will get it to stand out after painting.
I've been planning a simple gray camo scheme with masking tape for the exterior walls.
In conclusion, spartan scenics sets seem to be a really good (if not the best) alternative for scifi gaming. Quantity, quality and modularity are really standing out.
