Easy marble columns for 28mm

I have been looking for a easy method to paint marble effect as it is pretty cool material in terrain.
Additionally, I have been stacking up on vitamin tubes until I would find such an method. The day has now come, and I think I found good, fast method to produce marble in tabletop quality.

The actual column is a vitamin container, similar seem to exist in every country.
On the plus side, you get shitloads of vitamins while collecting these.

Obviously, the work begins with basecoat, white in this case.
I also constructed a stick that holds the container while I paint it further, and allows me to rotate it on the spot.

The magic is in masking airbrush with unevenly torn paper, the colour I use is beasty brown from army painter. Other colours could be colder blue-greys and such.

Just place the paper close to the surface, and spray carefully, varyind the nozzle distance and pressure to make the patterns more organic.
I did not vary paper distance as I wanted the edge of the pattern to be clear and hard.

Obviously splitting seams are done by starting another seam.

After I did all these (about an hour), I went through them with the same colour and did few touches here and there without the mask to liven them up a bit.
Then I used Vallejo's sepia shade heavily dilluted to wash them and tie the effect together, it took the edge and harshness away from the pattern.
Lastly, gloss spray to make it more marble like.

GW Laketown Houses

For sometime now, I've been coveting for GW's Laketown Houses for no particular reason but that they are very beautiful, and looked like well suited for modding.

I have new stuff!

I decided to buy more leaf cutters from greenstuffworld when I realized that they can be used on real leaves. Of course I noticed I had some other stuff that I "needed".

Self made door mould and treasures

Few weeks back I made a door from Beesputty, and a mold from it with Onymaru.

So a paladin and a tank stepped into a orc camp..

 I started painting the Frostgrave soldiers, and managed to finish the orc camp.

 As probably can be guessed from the subject of the post, I've been mostly fiddling with terrain.
So now my alienist, mr. Horatio Stillwater is going to present them to you while investigating if the abandoned factory is in fact Chulhu free zone.

I am locking my basing scheme for the chindits. During the course of it I made up a way to make plants that look a bit more tropical than regular static grass.

Farmhouse step 2

I've been mostly painting demons for my chaos space marine army. The house is getting along however every now and then when I feel I need to get a break from painting.

Old farmhouse WIP

So, I decided to give a terrain building a try. I have for a long time thought about making a farmhouse, kind of old style with stone first floor and wooden second. The whole thing would be covered with white plaster with some cracks exposing the structure.

Spartan Scenics buildings pt. 2

 I built and painted 2 of the buildings.
It took a bit longer, as I wanted to figure out a efficient painting scheme as there are maaany more to do.

I got 2 sets of spartan scenics boxes from battlefield berlin today (gret store btw.).

First thing I noticed was the size. They each weight around 10-15kg, which was a small issue, as I was picking them up with a bicycle :). After my wife drove with car, and got them, I started to go through what I had gotten.

Viking archers and few plants

While waiting for an idea of what to sculpt next, I painted a batch of viking archers to boost my upcoming hail Caesar/SAGA army.

I was about to throw away a bunch of CD disks when the mad hobbyist woke in me and told me to find some use for them.

GF9 extra large rocky hill

I bought Gale Force 9 extra large rocky hill few days back as a symptom of my ongoing terrain obsession. I have not liked GF9 terrain very much, as they look clumsy and too bulky generally. The hill looked good at the box's cover, and the option would have been to buy foam and start carving, painting and flocking, so I picked the the easy way out, and threw money at the problem.

More river pieces

More river pieces are getting done. With these, I  changed the process a little to fix the issues with the previous pieces, and to try out something new.

I thought the swamp needed more stuff happening in it, so I created couple of detachable trees to grow in it. The trunks are Woodland scenics, they were first painted black with gesso, and attached with magnets to the base. I then attached some  acrylic wool to brances with PVA glue, its from hobby shop, the same stuff that Flames of War bag of flames is made of. When that was dry, I pruned it with hobby knife, tearing it to keep it from looking too uniform, and painted it mutation green. I originally planned on stopping here, but the green looked too clean, so I applied Vallejo sepia wash as a last step, making it look dirty and clumpy.

So, here are the finished products, first the swamp.
I'm quite pleased of how this turned out, the water coloring and water/ground relation is pretty good.
